On August 8, 2025, Giant Food launched its 21st annual Pediatric Cancer Fundraising Campaign, aiming to raise $2M. The campaign is running for eight weeks, concluding on October 9 and spans September’s Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Since the program’s inception in 2005, Giant Food has raised over $33 million for pediatric cancer research.

During the campaign, Giant Food customers can participate by purchasing a $5 coupon book or rounding up at the register at their local store. Both in-store and online shoppers using Giant Delivers and Pickup can make donations and round up their checkout total. Further, any shopper purchasing a coupon book will receive $5 worth of points towards their next shopping trip, and be entered to win $6000 worth of Giant Food groceries. Individual Giant Food stores looking to increase donations are also holding raffles and other activities.

Each year CCF is invited to identify a local cancer fighter to represent the campaign. This year, we are honored to have Ambassador Darren Leonard representing CCF. Darren serves this year, along with Johns Hopkins Ambassadors Cali and Abbi. View the campaign video.

On July 28th, 2025, Giant Food hosted a dinner for the Ambassadors to meet and also to hear from Dr. Donald Small, who was recognized for his years as Director of Pediatric Oncology at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

100% of the proceeds raised from the Giant Food Pediatric Cancer Campaign support Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center and The Children’s Cancer Foundation, Inc. (CCF). Giant Food will present a donation to CCF at the Annual CCF Gala on November 1st.

A portion of donations raised during the campaign directly funds the Giant Food CCF NextGen Award. Created in 2013, the grant is intended to assist young investigators with both their research and career advancement in pediatric oncology. Ryan Corbett, Ph.D, of Children’s National, will receive the 2025 NextGen Award.

CCF is grateful to Board member Terry McGowan, Director of Food Safety and Quality Assurance at Giant Food, Felis Andrade, Director of External Communications and Community Relations, Ira Kress, President, Giant Food Eastern Division and the entire Giant Food team for their loyal and generous support.

NOVEMBER 2025 UPDATE: Thanks to the generosity of Giant Shoppers and the efforts of Giant’s outstanding promotion and incentives, the campaign raised $430,000 for CCF, and the check was presented at the 41st Annual Gala by CCF Board Secretary and Giant Food representative Terry McGowan.
